NYPD Officers Shot In The Bronx, $10K Bounty Offered For Information On Hispanic Suspects

New York City police
New York City police stand in silence on 65th street as they listen to the funeral service for New York Police Department officer Wenjian Liu in the Brooklyn borough of New York Jan. 4, 2015. Liu, 32, and Rafael Ramos, 40, were shot to death on December 20 as they sat in their squad car in Brooklyn. Their killer, Ismaaiyl Brinsley, who killed himself soon after, had said he was seeking to avenge the deaths this summer of two unarmed black men at the hands of white police officers.
Update as of 4:25 a.m. EST: The NYPD has released a video showing one of the suspects being sought in the shooting of two NYPD officers in the Bronx on Monday night.
Update as of 2:10 a.m. EST: The two NYPD officers who were shot by two assailants Monday night had completed their shifts and were in plainclothes when they responded to a robbery call at a grocery store in the Bronx, Police Commissioner Bill Bratton reportedly said
at a press conference.
Bratton reportedly said that the injured cops are aged 30 and 38 years, but added that their identities could not be revealed as their families have not been made fully aware of the incident. He also added that the suspects are Hispanic and a manhunt is underway. One of the suspects may have suffered a gunshot wound and was possibly admitted to Presbyterian Hospital, Bratton reportedly said, adding that this could not be confirmed.
“This is another example of the dangers officers face,” Mayor Bill de Blasio reportedly said at the press conference. Authorities have reportedly offered a bounty of $10,000 for any information leading to the arrest of the suspects. A video of the incident is expected to be released.
Update as of 12:08 a.m. EST: NYPD chief Kim Y. Royster said that a manhunt was underway for at least two suspects, according to The New York Times. Royster added that a gun was recovered at the scene but it was unclear if it belonged to either of the assailants. The two officers were reportedly in plainclothes as part of an anti-crime detail in the 46th Precinct, in the central part of the western Bronx, a police official said.

Two NYPD officers were shot and wounded in the Bronx on Monday night, local media reports said. The suspect, an armed robber, reportedly fled the scene and is still at large.
The officers were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital and their injuries are non-life threatening, the NYPD reportedly said. The incident took place on East 184th Street and Tiebout Avenue in the Fordham section shortly after 10:30 p.m. local time when the officers were apparently responding to a call about a robbery. The officers attempted to stop the suspect's vehicle but the driver tried to flee from the scene. The vehicle reportedly crashed, and the suspect opened fire at the officers after emerging from the vehicle, ABC 7 reported.
One officer was shot in the back and the other was shot in the arm, a law enforcement source reportedly said.
The shooting came just hours after Mayor Bill de Blasio and Police Commissioner Bill Bratton held a press conference to praise the department for the record low crime rate in 2014, calling it the "most extraordinary year of all." During his address, de Blasio also condemned thousands of cops who turned their backs on him during the funerals of two NYPD officers who were killed in an ambush last month.
NYPD police officers Wenjian Liu and Raphael Ramos were fatally shot in Brooklyn on Dec. 20 by a man believed to be seeking revenge for the shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, and the chokehold death of Eric Garner of Staten Island -- both incidents involving black men and white officers.
