Record producer Marion "Suge" Knight was involved in a hit-and-run collision, which killed one person and injured another in Compton, California, the Los Angeles Times reported on Thursday, citing law enforcement officials. An attorney for the 49-year-old reportedly said that Knight is expected to surrender in connection with the accident.
The incident took place Thursday after Knight was trying to escape from two crew members who attacked him on the set of "Straight Outta Compton," the debut album by hip hop group N.W.A, after an argument ensued, Lt. John Corina of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's detective unit, reportedly said. Corina added that Knight had run over the two men with his truck. Police is reportedly investigating the case as a homicide in which a 55-year-old man died. There have
been no news so far on the second victim -- a 51-year-old man -- who sustained undisclosed injures, authorities reportedly said.
"They obviously knew each other," Corina said, according to The Los Angeles Times. "They got into some kind of verbal altercation and it escalated. So far the people we talked to said it looked like an intentional act so we are handling it like a homicide."
The Los Angeles Police Department said that the red truck involved in the incident has been located, but they are yet to make contact with Knight, according to NBC Los Angeles.
Witnesses told TMZ that the incident took place during a movie shoot, involving rapper Ice Cube and record producer Andre Romelle Young, known by his stage name, Dr. Dre, after a fight broke out as security guards denied entry to the co-founder of Death Row Records.
Sources also reportedly said that the two men involved in the case had instigated Knight, who felt threatened as he has not been in a good health condition since he was attacked in August during a pre-MTV Video Music Awards party hosted by Chris Brown at the 1OAK nightclub in California.
