Kordestani’s appointment is the latest of many moves made by
Twitter a week after Jack Dorsey was appointed as chief executive officer of the company. Dorsey took to the social media site to make the announcement.
Before Twitter and Google, Kordestani also held roles at Hewlett-Packard and Internet pioneer Netscape Communications. He also took to the micro-blogging website to express his excitement for the new role.
But his appointment also comes a day after Twitter announced its plans to cut 336 positions, about 8 percent of its workforce. “This isn't easy,” wrote Dorsey in a company-wide email. “But it is right. The world needs a strong Twitter, and this is another step to get there.”
While jobs were cut across all departments, its product and engineering teams had the “most significant structural changes,” Dorsey added in his email. As part of the restructuring, Twitter also revised noted that it expect its revenue for the third quarter to land “at or above” the high end of its previous guidance of $545 million to $560 million, according to SEC filings.
