VENTURES AFRICA – Hudani Manji Holdings, a Ugandan-family owned food business, is set to launch a Sh26 Billion ($9.8m) ultra-modern poultry in Central Uganda, which is reportedly the biggest poultry facility in East Africa.
The 64 acres farm which will be commission by Uganda’s President, Yoweri Museveni at the end of this month consists of four 25,000 capacity broiler houses, a four metric tonne feed-mill, two-newly commissioned environmentally controlled and automated broiler houses
with a capacity of 40,000 birds each and a 15,000 square meter abattoir highly mechanized abattoir.
Managing Director of Hudani Manji Holdings, Rafik Manji said the poultry was built in response to the demand for chicken which is on the rise in Uganda especially among the growing middle class.
“This demand has quickly outstripped supply because there is no dominant integrated player in the Uganda poultry sector that is itself, highly unregulated and mostly informal,” he said.
Hudani Manji intends to provide quality poultry products for both the local and external market. It is already a supplier to leading fast food companies including Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), Kampala, Mr. Tasty and Cayenne Express.
