Nigeria’s Obafemi Martins Set For New $12m Contract With US Club

Obafemi-Martins1
VENTURES AFRICA – Widely traveled striker Obafemi Martins is reportedly set to bag a new $12 million contract at his current MLS club, Seattle Sounders. The new deal is said to be a two year of Martins’ current deal and will see him earn about $6 million annually.
Martins’ current deal is set to expire at the end of the current MLS season and given his red-hot form with the Seattle club, it is more than likely that the former Inter Milan, Newcastle and Levante striker will remain at the club.
Martin’s new deal will see him become the 8th highest paid
designated player in the MLS- one place above his current 9th position.
So far, Martins has bagged 13 league goals for the Sounders and has recorded double figures in both goals and assists for the club.
Martins’ form has led to renewed calls for the striker to be recalled to the Super Eagles but so far, the coaching staff of the Nigerian national team has shrugged off such calls claiming that the African champions have an abundance of options in the forward positions.
