“We expect to sell these glasses to technologist who will grab the golden opportunity to be the first in the African market to own a Google Glass” Takealot Co – CEO Willem Van Biljon said.
The Google Glass, also known as Project Glass, is a wearable technology gadget with an optical head mounted display. People who wear the optical glass are opened to a refreshing twist to internet experience; using voice commands to navigate actions display functions. It can connect users to the features of Google’s cloud such as Calendar, Google plus, Maps, Google place.
Google glass currently retails for $1500 in USA, but will sell for as high as $2,557 in South Africa, almost twice the price.
The company website also said that there is limited stock of the glass which is available in their online store.
According to International Data Corporation, wearable technology shipment volume is exceeding 19 million units, more than tripling the sales of 2013. It also said that the sale of the Glass on the global market is expected to hit 111.9 million units in 2018.
