VENTURES AFRICA – Facebook will on September 18 host its first Creative Shop Hackathon in Africa, as attention turns to Africa’s creative sector.
The workshop, which will hold as part of Loeries Creative Week™ Cape Town, is designed specifically for young creative designers with one to two years of experience.
“Facebook is a platform that works best when creatives market for people, rather than at them,” says Rob Newlan, Head of Facebook Creative Shop Europe, Middle East and Africa, who will oversee the Hackathon.
With the workshop, Newlan explained that Facebook hopes to show
how “social media allows brands and creatives to play a powerful and positive role in people’s lives by engaging with them in imaginative ways.”
Some of the ways Facebook fosters close relationships between brands and consumers will also be discussed at the workshop.
The workshop offers the opportunity to work on a real creative brief for the Loeries Creative Future Scholarship, with winners announced at the end of the workshop and credit offered to winners to help bring their idea to life.
Facebook will also provide an educational session showcasing award winning work as well as the latest developments from Facebook HQ on tools and systems being developed specifically for Africa.
“The Hackathon hosted by Facebook is one of many opportunities emerging for young people to excel in the brand communications industry.”
The Loeries CEO, Andrew Human described the Hackathon as one of the opportunities available for young people to help them to excel in the brand communication s industry.
“On our visit to five African countries we heard from locals about their desire to be recognized for their creative output and potential,” said Human.
The event is an example of the growing opportunities available in the Africa’s Creative Economy, Human noted.
