After a four month delay, the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), has finally approved the much anticipated and highly ‘controversial’ movie ” Half of a Yellow Sun”; a screen adaptation of Chimamanda Adichie’s book of the same name, directed by Biyi Bandele.
The board approved it alongside 76 other movies. According to the Board’s Corporate Affairs representative, Caesar Kagho, the film which stars Academy Award nominee, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Hollywood star, Thandie Newton and ‘A’ list Nollywood actors, has been approved for viewership in Nigeria and rated “18″.
On a $10 million (about N1.6billion) budget, the movie
was shot in five weeks at Tinapa Studios, Calabar in Nigeria. Bandele
reportedly lists malaria and typhoid as one of the major challenges of
the shoot, with several members of the cast and crew becoming ill,
including Newton
