Jumia Set To Enter Ghana, Cameroon

Jumia
VENTURES AFRICA – Jumia, an online retailer started two years ago, is poised to expand into Cameroon, Uganda and Ghana to take advantage of a huge hunger for its services in those markets, it emerged late on Monday.
Jumia is an African online shopping site where consumers can buy and browse through a variety of items including electronics, fashion, home appliances, kid’s items and more.
Established in 2012, Jumia is often described as an e-commerce start-up aimed to imitate Amazon’s feat by delivering a wide range of items across Africa.
Jumia already has operations in Nigeria, Egypt, Ivory Coast, Morocco and Kenya. It sells up to 100,000 diverse stuffs from its local depots.

The firm set up shop in Uganda earlier this year, according to Reuters. The Ghana and Cameroon operations are poised to open in the next couple of weeks, Reuters reported, citing Jumia spokesman.
“We know we are early. We are coming to markets which are not as mature in terms of Internet penetration and Internet savviness but still there is a big appetite for this service,” Reuters quoted Jumia co-founder, Sacha Poignonnec, as saying.
International consulting corporation, McKinsey, has guessed that almost 16 percent of sub-Saharan Africans are linked to the internet while Europe had 75 percent of its people connected to the net.
McKinsey has said an increase in the number of Africans exposed to the Internet will assist African e-commerce sales to rise to $75 billion by 2025, thereby bolstering Jumia’s business.
