Katy Perry performed during the 2015 Super Bowl halftime show Sunday. The 30-year-old singer came out singing “Roar” while riding a giant robotic tiger being pulled by puppeteers dressed in black. Her halftime performance was definitely entertaining, belting out hit songs like “Firework,” “I Kissed A Girl” and “Dark Horse” … but was she really singing?Perry dished to ET Online prior to the Super Bowl she didn’t want her performance to feature that much lip syncing. “I think a lot of it will be live,” she explained. However, she did prerecord some vocals. The curiosity surrounding Katy Perry’s show stemmed from anger over the 2014 halftime performance from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Following the game, bassist Flea revealed while the vocals were live, the band was “pretending” to play their instruments.
“When we were asked by the NFL and Bruno to play our
song 'Give It Away' at the Super Bowl, it was made clear to us that the vocals would be live, but the bass, drums, and guitar would be prerecorded,” Flea explained in a message to fans. “I understand the NFL's stance on this, given they only have a few minutes to set up the stage, there a zillion things that could go wrong and ruin the sound for the folks watching in the stadium and the TV viewers. There was not any room for argument on this, the NFL does not want to risk their show being botched by bad sound, period.”
