Pakistan’s Worst Road Accident in a Year Leaves 56 People Dead

As many as 56 people died in Pakistan’s worst traffic accident in a year after a passenger bus and truck collided in the southern province of Sindh, a rescue official said.
“It happened on the bypass that connects Khairpur and Sukkur districts, an area we consider to be most dangerous for commuters,” Anwaar Kazmi, a spokesman for Edhi Foundation, Pakistan’s biggest rescue service, said by phone.
A tractor and bus collision left about 40 people dead in April in the same area, Kazmi said
Today’s accident took place at 5 a.m. local time and 20 people injured in the crash were shifted to the local hospital, Munawar Ali Mithani, district coordination officer for Khairpur, said by phone.
The death toll includes 18 children, 21 women and 17 men, state-run Pakistan Television reported, citing Ghulam Jafar Soomro, medical superintendent of Civil Hospital.
