A
gunman at Florida State University was shot dead by campus police after
at least two people were injured by him at the university library early
Thursday, the police said, The Associated Press reported.
The police, who had reached the spot in search of the gunman, had asked
students to stay inside after at least four gunshots were heard at the
site.
Mary Coburn, vice president of student affairs at the university, initially announced that the gunman was shot dead by the police, and authorities later confirmed it, Fox News reported. The University announced at 2:30 a.m., on Twitter, that the campus had been secured.
Some local reports had also said that three people were injured during
the incident, which began just after midnight.
"It was a consecutive bop, bop, bop, bop, bop," freshman Nikolai Hernandez said, according to Fox News, adding: "It makes me definitely a little bit nervous. I was supposed to be in the library. I had a paper to do and I got a little bit lazy and decided not to do it."
