South African Medical Student Crowned Miss World

VENTURES AFRICA – South African medical student, Rolene Strauss, has been crowned this year’s Miss World, making her the 64th person to wear the crown. The event was held yesterday in London.
The 22-year-old, in her fourth year in medical school, beat 121 other contestants to the crown. In the process, she fulfilled her life-long dream of winning the pageantry; she has had to put her studies on hold for the competition.
Strauss, who was joined in the top ten by another
African, Miss Kenya, Idah Nguma, beat other finalists from Australia, Hungary, England, Guyana, Brazil, United States, Mexico and India to get the coveted crown.
Julia Morley, Miss World Chairman, said: “It was great to bring the 64th Miss World Final back to London and where it all began 63 years ago.
“I’m looking forward to travelling with Rolene, the new Miss World, to visit countries around the globe to support this year’s finalists Beauty with a Purpose fundraising projects.”
