Mauritius’ Central Bank Governor Dismissed By New Government

VENTURES AFRICA – Rundheersing Bheenick, the long-serving Governor of Mauritius’ Central Bank, has announced that his appointment has been terminated by the country’s newly installed government.
“My contract has been terminated with immediate effect. I have received a letter from the secretary of the President of the Republic,” the ex-governor told Reuters.
Rundheersing has been at the helm of the apex bank for the last seven years, but his seemingly timeless spell has been cut short by the new administration this weekend. He received his letter of dismissal on Friday.
But Rundheersing has hinted at an appeal could be on the offing after he said would seek the advise of his legal team to confirm if the government, sworn in last month, had the right to relief him of his job.
