Schiller, who started at the microblogging company in January, announced her departure in a tweet yesterday. She said she had been persuaded to join the company by former Chief Operating Officer Ali Rowghani and ex-media team head Chloe Sladden, who both exited in June after Rowghani’s power struggle with Chief Executive Officer Dick Costolo.
The San Francisco-based company, which this year also
replaced its chief financial officer and its heads of engineering and consumer product, is rebuilding mangement to match Costolo’s vision after a November initial public offering. Schiller, who had worked at NBC and National Public Radio, was responsible for striking partnerships with news organizations, which are increasingly using Twitter’s service to post breaking news updates.
In her tweets, Schiller said she stepped down so that Katie Jacobs Stanton, who replaced Sladden as the company’s global media lead, “can reorganize as she sees fit.” Schiller’s tenure at Twitter “was a fascinating experience,” she wrote.
Adam Sharp will run Twitter’s news and government teams after Schiller’s departure, according to Rachael Horwitz, a spokeswoman. She declined to comment further.
