What Amazon has lacked in profit was usually made up for in revenue growth. But now investors are worried that may no longer be the case.
The e-commerce giant reported today that revenue in the current quarter -- the most significant quarter given the holiday sales -- will be somewhere between
$27.3 billion and $30.3 billion. Analysts had projected $30.9 billion. If you take the high end of that forecast, and compare quarterly revenue growth over the year-ago period (benchmarked against eMarketer's numbers for the U.S. e-commerce industry), you get a chart like this.
The revenue outlook, along with Amazon's forecast for profit,
aren't making investors happy. Shares of Amazon fell as much as 13
percent in extended trading. Bah, humbug.
